Why this one
The bit you already remember
Somebody in every family kept score in a real book, in pencil, with a ruler and a rubber. They did not look up much. They knew the score better than the scoreboard did, and they said so.
The ruled grid of a scorebook covers the front half — the ball-by-ball boxes, the running total column, the bowling analysis at the foot. Turn it and there is an empty wagon wheel, the spokes drawn but unmarked.
Everything is blank. No innings is recorded on it, which makes the mug a scorebook rather than a picture of one, and if you are the sort of person who would fill it in with a fine-liner, we have thought about you and we approve.
In matte black the grid prints in a warm chalk white, which is the better-looking of the two and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
