Why this one
The bit you already remember
You had already watched it. You read the whole card the next morning anyway, on the back page, standing up, and you read the extras line even though the extras line never mattered.
Each month is one match given the whole page as a complete scorecard: both innings, the fall of wickets, the bowling figures, the extras line, the result in small caps at the foot.
The typesetting is ours from the ground up — our column rules, our numerals, our grid, our abbreviations. It is set the way newsprint was set, at the size newsprint was set, because that density is the point. No newspaper is reproduced, quoted or named.
The date grid runs down the right-hand third, so the card keeps its shape and you still have somewhere to write.
A note on names: a scorecard is a list of people, and we are not printing those. Every card is set with the batting order given as positions and the bowling as ends and spells — a card of the match, not of the men. It reads strange for about four seconds and then it reads better.
