Why this one
The bit you already remember
The alarm went at twenty past and you were already awake. You took the blanket off your own bed, you turned the volume down to two, and you sat a foot from the screen so nobody upstairs would hear. By the time it got light you had been up for three hours and you did not tell anyone at school.
Seen from behind and slightly low: the back of a sofa, a blanket over a pair of shoulders, a cup on the floor beside it, and a television throwing the only light in the room. Everything is drawn in three inks and the screen is one flat rectangle of glow — there is nothing on it, because there did not need to be.
The time runs small in the bottom corner, set in the same six-point face the scorecards use. It is the only text on the shirt.
The shoulders under the blanket have no face, no hair and no build. They are a shape, and the shape is you.
