Why this one
The bit you already remember
Afternoon session, double maths, one earphone run up the inside of your sleeve and your chin propped on your hand. You learned to take a wicket with your face completely still.
The tuning dial of a pocket transistor, drawn at close to actual size: the frequency scale, the little red needle, the two band positions, the thumbwheel at the edge worn smooth.
There are no station names or call signs on the scale — just the frequency numbers, the way the cheapest sets were printed.
Printed small over the heart, because that is roughly where the radio sat in a shirt pocket.
