Why this one
The bit you already remember
Twenty-two yards is a strange, specific, inherited number — the length of a surveyor's chain, from a measuring system nobody uses any more. You learned it as a child and you will die knowing it.
A plan view drawn as a working drawing: popping crease, return creases, bowling crease, every one dimensioned with extension lines and arrowheads, plus a title block in the corner giving the scale and a revision number.
Printed in a single ink on a blueprint-navy ground, or reversed in navy on chalk.
The dimensions are correct. We checked them twice, which is more than we ever did in the lane, where the pitch was however far apart two bricks happened to be.
